24″ Reverse Hand Painted Chandelier by artist Jenny Floravita—is installation ready.
Lava Oceans of Fire is a reverse hand painted chandelier that is part of a concept series of Hawaiian lava inspired chandeliers that I’ve been creating for a couple years and pondering in my mind for twice that amount of time. I’ve been painting in this series of chandeliers since before the eruption that recently spared the lovely Pahoa town, which is located on the East side of Hawaii in the Puna district. This is part of a slow moving Kilauea eruption that’s been going on since 1983, so it’s nothing new. In this particular chandelier I’ve painted lava that goes to the ocean, like it does on the Kalapana side. The dramatic colors of blue-black lava rock against molten rivers of red flowing lava hitting the ocean are stunningly beautiful to me. The typography extends many miles below the surface of the ocean and that’s the other concept of this chandelier.
For those of you who have never been to the Puna and Hilo side of the island, which is across the island from Kona—it’s stunningly beautiful! It’s very lush with old growth ohia trees. Abundant rain fall allows plants and trees to thrive. Some of the coastline is breathtaking, especially towards the south where the big lava fields are located. In the near future, this lower area now being referred to as ‘lower Puna’ or ‘south side of the flow’ will definitely become more remote as some roads will have access cut from time-to-time…if not permanently. In the last 1000 years Kilauea has repaved it’s surface so this is just part of what this volcano does naturally…and it tends to happen slowly.
All of my reverse hand painted chandeliers are hand-crafted and painted by me, Jenny Floravita. All of my chandeliers are originals. All are carefully thought out and painted. None of my chandeliers are painted by studio artists. I mention this is because most glass art studios involve several people in the glass making process, especially in glass blowing studios or studios that create stained glass lamps—and it’s all a lot of work so I truly do understand why lots of people in these studios are involved. The reverse painted lamps from the earlier part of the last century were done in studios that involved many artists…but my reverse hand painted chandeliers are all created here by me—my studio is very boutique. Each piece has a lot of time and skill. I’ve been a professional artist for over two decades and fine art is my college degree and I have sold hundreds of works of art to date.
The hand forged fixture style that you see here is my Standard style…but you could pair this chandelier with either my Ornate or Contemporary Swirl (with the straight arms).
My reverse hand painted chandeliers are exquisite works of art and are heirloom quality and will hang in fine homes for generations to come.
