the Flamingo Jungle Paintings Suite
Though most of my wall art is Hawaiian in theme…I do have a special place in my heart for Florida. Florida first inspired the tropical themes within my oil and watercolor paintings. I am proud to present the whimsical yet sophisticated the Flamingo Jungle Suite! The four flamingo jungle paintings are original watercolors that are 24×34 inches in size.
In fact, these beautiful flamingo jungle paintings were some of my most sought after fine art prints. They were also super popular in a tote bag series that I produced here in my studio.
I still have these original paintings in my studio and here’s the reason why: when painted them, I choose very ornate Larson Juhl Baroque style gold frames that were wide. The matting is also elaborate and overall the presentation is stunning! I was in the process of transitioning from fine art galleries to art festivals. The framing was exquisite! But these paintings were very heavy to move around to art festivals. The frame style that I choose just wasn’t practical for the festival venue here in California so after ONE outdoor fair I hung them in my own home and simply didn’t show the originals again (or they would have sold).
In fact, within two years I switched to working primarily in oil on canvas sell through fine art festivals. As much as I love watercolors, works of art on canvas were easier to exhibit outdoors. They could be exposed to full sunlight all day long. If a rainstorm suddenly struck—no problem! Whereas with watercolor, you have to keep the plexi glass out of the sun or condensation starts to form. Exhibiting watercolors outside requires moving lots of umbrellas around…which I wouldn’t have minded except that the San Francisco Bay Area can be windy.
This is What Makes These Paintings Special
What makes this particular series of flamingo paintings special is that scenes are from the original Flamingo Jungle Gardens that closed in Coral Gables years ago. My mother and I were privileged to visit these gardens towards the end. The animals from this lush park were then relocated to an island off Miami and similar gardens were installed into a similar setting. However, I will tell you that there was a particular charm in the original Coral Gables gardens that just wasn’t duplicated in Miami. And I have wonderful memories from this early trip—we were in Florida to meet with an art gallery that would sell my paintings in Coral Gables and Atlanta—and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of a place that is so lush!
I paint what is true to my heart. I try to be as unique in my work as possible. Capturing the essence of a location is an obsession. This series of flaming paintings is both expressive and true to what I experienced. If you enjoy the art from this special series, you can have it in a print or on a tote bag or beach towel. All of those options and more are available through my online Prints and Gifts Shop.
