Dreaming of an Ocean Inspired Room?
There are many different ways to create an ocean inspired room in your home. Try incorporating uniquely beautiful works of art into the space. You will be designing an ocean room special to you—a room that only you could possess. The dreamy ocean inspired room shown here features a beautifully painted, glass sea turtle chandelier that has the colors of a tropical marine reef. Aqua blues add elegance and show beautifully against the soft neutral light grey wall. An original painting of Kauai featuring an exciting ocean painted in soothing colors further brings the ocean into your home.
Even if you do not own a waterfront home with an expansive ocean view (such as this ocean inspired room shown here), you can get the look by following these simple guidelines:
- Presentation of art is simple
- Wall colors are a cool, soft neutral tone
- Floors are a deeper hue
- Accent colors can be brought in with furniture
- Choose a beautiful glass chandelier with aqua colors
- Decor is minimal
Keep Your Art Presentation Simple Yet Bold
Warm Waves on Kauai’s Coconut Coast is the title of the Kauai watercolor painting shown here. It has a refined elegance and is full of the colors of a warm afternoon on the Hawaiian island of Kauai’i. The movement in the ocean adds excitement to the scene—you can feel the warm trade winds in the salty ocean air. Coconut palms sway elegantly as the warm Pacific ocean washes up on the lava rock beach. The presentation of this work of art is simple yet bold. Adding a large watercolor that is elegantly framed with a simple white matt and a black frame gives the room a modern tropical feeling.
Choose a Wall Color with a Cool Neutral Tone
I love how the soft light grey wall color shown here. Grey colors can be warm or cool and in this case, I prefer the cool look as it compliments the aqua colors in the art. After choosing a sample color. Abracadabra (TC-31) by Benjaman Moore could be a good color match to showcase the art shown here. Paint is part illusion so to find a good color, bring swatches home. Paint samples of your favorite hues on your wall and reassess when dry. A painting such as Warm Waves on Kauai’s Coconut Coast will pop against this color.
The painted glass sea turtle chandelier with aquas also works beautifully with this wall color. A hint of a tropical island is painted around the top of the glass, further bringing an island feel to the room. Many of the same aqua, sea foam and ocean blue hues are in the sea turtle chandelier and the Kauai painting. Warm sand colors are in the painting and the sea turtle. The same works of art would also be lovely in a room with light beige hues. The overall feeling would be warmer.
Floors Are A Deeper Hue
Stained concrete floors in a deeper cool grey hue add to the modern feeling of this ocean inspired room. A similar look could be created with wood floors that have clean lines.
Accent Colors Chosen From Art
Rooms that we live in have more furnishings but by keeping a room simple, you create a modern feeling. Accent colors from the art can be brought into the room in a clean, clutter free way. The blue chairs could be painted an aqua or sea foam color. A table could be white. A vase on a dining table could have the deeper blue hue from the sea turtle chandelier. The deeper blue hue is also in the Kauai painting. These two works of art go together well.
Choose a Beautiful Glass Chandelier with Aqua Colors
The painted glass sea turtle chandelier shown here is titled Tropical Island Ocean Reef. The other side of the chandelier feature vibrant ocean reef fish that could add additional island inspired color to the room. A white crystal-type chandelier would also be pretty but wouldn’t have the same flair. When choosing a chandelier, look for colors and motifs that inspire you. A special dining room chandelier that speaks to you is worth the extra price.
Decor is Minimal
Overall the decor in a modern ocean inspired room is more minimal. Carefully choose what goes into the room and take out extras. Tip to declutter: if you place items in a closet that do not fit. If in a month you do not miss them, then you can probably live without. You can always alternate decorative accents to keep your room feeling new.
