I’d like to share pictures from a dear client who has done a wonderful job at grouping a collection of tropical flower paintings in her lovely home in Canada. In looking at the pictures of her home I could tell that she likes a clean, elegant and spacious feeling in a room. Sachiko’s use of white walls make the home feel really modern and open and probably more light-filled during the winter months. White walls also allows the vibrancy of color from her collection of tropical flower paintings to stand out.
A Collection of Tropical Flower Paintings Brings A Fresh Feeling to Each Room
To maintain a modern feeling, she did a really smart thing when she decided to choose all tropical flower paintings that had bold compositions. Sachiko has been collecting my Hawaiian tropical flower paintings since 2015 and I believe she started with the sunlight tropical heliconia and birds of paradise flowers here on this wall. Many of the paintings in her collection have similar colors. The red heliconia painting on the left was added just recently—she choose from two different compositions, each being a newly released painting.
Same Size Heights Keep Lines Clean
The next thing that I notice is that she pairs same height size paintings together on a wall thus creating a clean fresh line. If you want to a space that has a feeling of organization, then hanging paintings that are the same size within a line makes perfect sense. She carefully choose each painting in her collection and I believe that it shows in how well her art work flows through her home. If Sachiko’s paintings had been different sizes on this wall, then she probably would have centered each piece with the tallest painting being in the middle—that would have also worked. The set of three is a good number as well.
The alcove on the wall that is directly across from the three square tropical flower paintings has a canvas print that was made to a custom size. She creates a zen feeling by adding stones on the ledge in front of the painting.
Gallery Wrapped Canvas are Modern
All of my original tropical flower oil paintings are painted gallery wrapped canvas in which each piece is painted around the edges—therefore the presentation is the same throughout her home, unifying the space. Gallery wrapped canvases are modern by their nature. This was smart because it further helps to unify her vision as one transitions through the home.
Square and Tall Paintings Look Fresh on a Wall
Within my collection of tropical flower paintings, most are painted in either square canvas or tall, thin canvas shapes and this adds to a modern fresh look. I like this format because it allow me to compose the flowers in a unique way, bringing in the essence of a tropical flower garden boldly into a space. I enjoy challenging myself artistically to paint flowers in new ways—square and tall canvas shapes are exciting.
Sachkio’s room lends itself well to square shape paintings as her walls are large and her ceilings tall, especially in the stairwell, where she has paired two taller flower paintings that are size 24×36 inches. The giant bird of paradise on the top and the red and pink anthurium painting on the bottom had deeper background colors and they work together well, each piece standing on it’s own flanked between sconces.

Consistent Spacing Between Paintings Accented with Live Plants
I love seeing walls filled with paintings but if you want to create a clean fresh modern look in your home, then consistent spacing between your works of art helps. In my client’s home, everything has it’s place and it’s been very well thought out. Sachiko creates a meaningful zen feeling by not having a lot of extra furniture…and I admire the open and free feeling.
Live flowers and plants also greatly add to the ambiance of a room. A jungle of tropicals can make for a more Victorian feeling whereas larger leaved single plants that stand alone but make a big statement or vases of flowers keep with the fresh modern vibe.

Sachiko had also sent me a statement about her collection that had such kind words, she asked to say to say this if I was to share her pictures:
My first purchase of Jenny’s oil paintings were 24×24 Bird of Paradise in pastel and 24×24 Gorgeous in Yellow on canvas and it was in August 2015. Since then I am a huge fan of her art work and am a collector of her exotic flower oil paintings. I have 7 original oil paintings, 2 printed oil paintings and 1 printed water color in my house now. Each paintings inspire/inspired me different way because each paintings have a story in it. All are amazingly lovely and absolutely stunning and strong, just like Jenny.
And then she went on to say:
Most importantly, Jenny, your painting makes me and my husband smile, happy and calm, your painting gives us an energy and your paintings fit in our new home perfectly. Thank you again for the fabulous work, Jenny. It has been such a pleasure knowing you.
And though many of my collectors have very eclectic collections of art and mix and match a lot of different styles—and that can and does work fabulously, this is a great example of sticking within a single theme and presentation to create a modern and fresh look.
Below are a few more pictures to show the rest of my client’s tropical flower collection. It was difficult to choose what images to feature and I truly appreciated so many great pictures to share!
