In the past couple of months I’ve completed more than one watercolor painting of the Green Kona Beach House in Hawaii. This fun little house sits on the edge of the ocean on Ali’i Drive in Kailua-Kona. Unlike the other two watercolor paintings that I created of this Hawaiian beach house, this is a larger painting. Green Kona Beach House in Hawaii measures 28×22 inches and is painted on 300lb hot press Arches paper with Windsor and Newton Artist Series watercolors—my all time favorite watercolor hues.
Watercolor was my first love and I’ve been painting in watercolor since I was 11 years old!!! There have been years where I have mostly created paintings in oil as they are easier to sell through galleries and also easier to show at fine art festivals that are outdoors. In prior years, I would exhibit my Hawaiian themed oil and watercolor paintings in up to 20 juried art festivals in California every year. The past few years, I’ve simply been too busy with orders for my work—both my painted chandelier art form and my Hawaiian oil and watercolor paintings…so I simply stay in my studio and paint!…and then ship!!!
With this composition, I wanted to set the little green beach house back a bit and show more of the beautiful sandy coral beach that has beautiful hues of soft purples and pinks in the evening accented with the bright white of the coral that washes ashore. When you walk on these beaches in Kona, do be careful with your step if you are in flip flops or any other open toe shoe because a single slip on this beautiful coral beach will make you wish you’d never stepped on it! The coral can be sharp so watch your step!!!
