There are a couple different answers to the question above. The rare art form of the reverse painted glass chandelier and lamps allow for a lot of different color possibilities. I could go on endlessly about the different possibilities and the different ways in which I approach the painting of these beautiful chandeliers and I’ve watched people agonize over the different choices that they see in my studio as there are so many.
Consider the room that you intend for your chandelier to hang and it’s color scheme but realize that the chandelier will always be more vibrant than the surrounding colors because the color is illuminated and light gives color a different dimension. The two most basic ways to go are either 1) choose complimentary colors or 2) allow yourself to simply choose colors that you like and allow your chandelier to be an eccentric extension of your soul. Both options will produce a beautiful painted chandelier!
You can get a lot of color combination ideas by looking at the various reverse painted glass chandeliers on my website. If you don’t see something that needs to match your throw pillows or wall color then let me know because chances are that I can mix colors that will work! I do this all the time.
The above reverse painted glass chandelier was a custom piece for a dear collector who also owns one of my small Santa Barbara vignette oil paintings. Her ceiling was short (8′) in the bedroom where she wanted her chandelier and the space was intimate and those two factors dictated the size of the piece. We used her favorite colors that also surrounded the room and produced a chandelier that was unlike anything in my collection. This would be an example of working withing an existing color palate with success.
