Choosing Lighting for a Home Remodel?

Remodeling a home can be a huge undertaking but in the end it’s worth it especially if you desire a truly unique space that fits your style and needs. As an artist who creates gorgeous, bespoke painted glass chandeliers, I casually asked several other lighting designers recently what they thought would be the best time to purchase lighting for a home remodel. Their answers surprised me! They ALL thought that lighting should be choose in the beginning of the remodel phase. And I agree!

A majority of the people who call for information about my hand painted glass chandeliers are either remodeling a home that they live in or are building their dream home. I speak with a lot of people who are in the very beginning phases of home remodels and I love it when they are contacting me early about choosing a gorgeous painted glass chandelier for their dinging room.

Here are 5 good reason why lighting for a home remodel should be chosen in the re-design phase:

Pricing and purchasing early allows you to keep your dream chandelier and lighting fixtures in your budget…because you aren’t going to want to live with an ‘ugly’ dining room chandelier after you go through all of the work to transform your home
When designing spaces, you need to be able to determine the mood for each room through specific lighting—think chandeliers, lamps, pendants, flush mounts, track lights, sconces, etc…they all create different moods
Being ready with your lighting fixtures early will prevent delays in installation

If you happen to fall in love with a high-end chandelier, be it one of mine or a modern piece out of a magazine, you definitely want to choose it early and then plan for your accent lighting around the space. Sometimes I have the perfect chandelier in my studio and it’s ready to ship. The two chandeliers featured in the top image were painted for a dear client on the East Coast. Though his home was a new home build, you can see how much thought he had put into his rooms with the design. His lighting is beautiful night and day in both his kitchen and breakfast room. Lighting is so important to creating ambiance in a home. It’s so essential! And it needs to be part of the plan from the beginning to have a truly polished and well designed space.
