On another Northern California trip I decide it’s time to bring oils because I like the immediate vibrancy and hoping to capture the colors quickly. This is a plein air sketch and I spent about 40 minutes before calling it quits. The lighting had changed a lot.

I am also using a new travel paint box. And I’m trying out water-mixable oils. I’m wondering if the cleanup is easier. And I’m also hoping that these paints dry faster (but I find out that they don’t).

This video shows the story of what unfolded during this session. I did like the final painting at the end for what it is! Not my best by any means but honestly, I’m encouraged to paint plein air more in oils. I might actually become good at it if I stay consistent this year. What do you think?
